Great News… As of April 4, 2008
Your Lien rights have been preserved! Friday evening, with only a few hours left before the end of the 2008 legislative session, the Senate passed a bill that will make minor changes to existing lien laws. Avoided, were several proposals by opponents of lien law that would have potentially wiped out all residential liens and severely weakened commercial liens.
After 5 months of Senate study meetings and numerous votes and amendments back and forth between the Senate and the house of representatives, a fair and balanced lien law bill was presented. The ultimate bill that passed consists primarily of needed clarifications relating to terminology and deadlines, but it also has some revisions related to notices, waivers and perfecting a lien. The changes will not go into effect until March 31, 2009, so there is plenty of time to learn about the details and how the new provisions may impact your routine lien activities, if at all. GLRC members will be receiving a detailed email explaining the new lien laws. It is our association policy to provide our members all current event information prior to updating this website. After GLRC members have been notified and all of their questions answered, we will be updating this website for the general public with detailed information about the new lien law changes as well as lien law seminars that will be offered this summer and fall.
If you are not a GLRC member, please view this website toward the end of April for all the facts relating to the new lien law changes.
